“Enthusiasm is the mother of effort, and without it nothing great was ever achieved.“ --Ralph Waldo Emerson
Enthusiasm is incredibly easy to generate; you can turn just about any kind of energy into it.
When your child is nervous, have them stand in front of a mirror and ascribe their symptoms to excitement instead. “I'm shaking because I'm excited! I have butterflies because of all the enthusiastic energy!” … and so on.
Everyone knows that focused practice is very important. Without it you could completely stall out your growth, and in turn cause inward feelings of resentment for the lack of progress. While you (or your child) should spend a great deal of time focusing on where you are and the proper steps you should take to propel yourself forward, it's equally important to let the creative juices flow.
Make it a point to turn your studio into a sound lab for a good chunk of your practice time. Create something beautiful, unique, and most importantly, you. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to come from your heart and soul.
